Nikon S600 Review

I have used this camera for a week and found simple to use. The dial for the navigation the menu, makes it slightly easier as well as the menu icons are bigger than older models. I really like the color of it, unfortunately there's only one color, is still good and classy. It's in an outstanding camera. It is fast (there are faster cameras but this is more than adequate), accurate, and produces excellent images under difficult lighting situations. The lens is sharp with well controlled distortions. The metering is spot on accurate. The battery has plenty of power for a full day of shooting (you should always carry a spare just in case). Like most sub-compacts this little guy lack a viewfinder. I think Nikon should include viewfinder in newer point and shoot cameras. I do agree that this one has the brighter and sharper screen that can be brightened up and I had no problems shooting on sunny days.

Nikon removed some post-processing features from the camera that I miss, The red-eye correction tool is gone as well as the ability to convert an image to black-and-white. Black-and-white pictures must be shot that way. Well, there are millions of ways to convert your images into Black and white. The high iso noise levels are simply amazing. This little guy at 1600 iso blows away the competition. I would like more control over image size and compression. I wish Nikon hadn't removed the "Panoramic assist" mode from the scene menu. Yeah I really miss that. Also that the software comes in the box from Nikon, they also have the Arcsoft Panorama Maker, which is just an simply great program to stitch any kind of multiple images.

Everything is good about this camera, i really wish they kept the viewfinder. That would really help in the bright sunny day, when the LCD screen gets inaccurate with colors. If you are upgrading your camera after long time, I think this might be the best one for you, in matter of simplicity and unique features.
